Do you have any plans yet for the Global Climate Strike on Friday? We hope you do because this is a crucial moment date to speak up, where at least 150 countries worldwide are coming together, and individual, business and institutional action is required. Here we showcase ideas and campaigns to join!
On 20 September 2019, millions of people around the world will walk out of their workplaces and homes to join young climate strikers on the streets, demanding action on climate change now – inspired by Swedish schoolgirl and climate activist Greta Thunberg. To demand an end to the age of fossil fuels. Our house is on fire — let’s act like it. We demand climate justice for everyone.

This is important. The forests are the “lungs of the world” – and it’s going up in smoke. We all can do our bit!
Just the Amazon removes up to 2 billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere every year, about 5% of total emissions caused by human activity. The Amazon is now on fire, and we are living a massive environmental crisis, the only way is to together as a collective. This involves us all.
While individuals, us all we plan to go out on the streets this Friday, there is more we can do. The answer could be businesses; they are a powerful motor of our economy and giving back in small dose could have an incredibly positive impact. There are already brands that enable a business model that gives back either in the form of planting trees, or just by saving “paper” by creating products that are more sustainable and eco-friendly!
This is how your business can make an impact
Future Super has launched Not Business as Usual and now over 1,000 companies have signed up.
ReadyFundGo, have just launched a campaign to plant a minimum of 1,000 trees.
“We know that for whatever reason not everyone will be able to join the strike but they can show their support by planting a tree. By planting a tree, individuals are taking positive action to help reduce carbon in the atmosphere, and also show their support for the next generation and their demands for swift action on climate change.” Jill Storey, CEO ReadyFundGo
Businesses that plant 10 trees will be issued with a certificate and have their logo to the campaign page. The target is for companies to plant one tree for every employee even if they permit their employees to strike.
As many of you will know, according to the United Nations, we only have 11 years to limit the climate change catastrophe. Without rapid cuts in CO2 and other greenhouse gases, climate change will have increasingly destructive and irreversible impacts on life on Earth. (Source: UN.org). With a 1.5 degree global warming scenario we lose 70-90% of the planet’s coral reefs. At 2 degrees we lose over 99% (Source: IPPC -Global Warming of 1.5°C, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change).
ReadyFundGo has partnered with Carbon Neutral, Australia’s major carbon offset developer who have planted 29.5 million trees to date. The trees will be planted in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor, Western Australia.
Feel free to show solidarity by jumping on the campaign page and planting a tree for $5 – the price of a coffee!
Hope to see you in the Strike!
