Izabela is an “accidental social entrepreneur” based in Turkey. She is also a mum, and that’s why she deeply feels that each kid should have enough food, the opportunity to learn and an environment to thrive. In Bebemoss studio, refugee mums from Syria and underprivileged Turkish mothers gather to produce these beautiful organic handmade toys.
Bebemoss was founded to make organic toys, but also to help families in need. The goal was to give jobs to mothers in need and refugee mums coming from Syria, who have to face many challenges. Many of those women have no other means to get a job and juggle their families at the same time
Today the brand has on board a community of over 80 mothers, also like to be called mompreneurs.
When they are all together, in a beautiful home environment, magic happens. In love with babies, helping to sustain their families, they believe in the importance of preserving the planet as well as our health.
The toys are entirely handcrafted; bears, lions, monkeys and elephants made out with organic cotton yarn. All the toys are made with love. Changing lives, one stitch at a time.
High standards on toy safety
Every raw material is been carefully selected and is produced to the highest quality standards (according to requirements of the En 71 European Toy Safety directives).
Organic yarn. Bebemoss uses locally produced and high-quality organic GOTS certified cotton, which is wind to the desired thickness in their own atelier.
Poly filling. Also only locally produced high-quality hypoallergenic stuffing, which is OEKO-Tex standard 100 certified. As a stuffing alternative, Bebemoss also offers natural untreated wool.
Eyes. Made out of high-quality plastic, which does not contain phthalates or other harmful substances. They do have a safety pin, making it impossible to detach from the toy.
More opportunities for refugees mums
The jobs are sustainable because whether they produce toys from the workshop or from home, they can bring their little ones along helping to balance their chore and life. They can also count on a fair pay. Further to that, each toy sold through their website helps to donate an amount to keep supporting programs for refugee children, especially education.
Bebemoss has recently started a collaboration with Small Projects Istanbul Syrian refugee community centre, from where more refugee mums continuously join the mompreneur team.
